These versatile cards can be used in so many ways with your child. Spots are all laid out in the ‘five-spot pattern’ which is easiest for the brain to recognise.
This activity introduces the idea of subitising. This is defined as the ability to instantaneously recognise the number of objects in a small group without the need to count them. Subitising is a skill that the brain can develop, but only with focused practice. Subitising is needed for other later mathematical skills to develop.
Ideally for the best results, print onto good quality cards stock and then laminate. Cut out carefully and clip corners.
