There are two styles of group lessons.
We will be running weekly KS2/KS3 online Maths enrichment group lessons especially for Neurodiverse children who find Maths really tough going and probably have Maths Anxiety. They may already have a diagnosis of Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, ADHD, Dyspraxia or ASD. Or you may believe that they show many of the traits of these learning differences. If so, they will need to be taught in a different, much more visual, and practical way.
Neurodiversity is a different brain organisation that needs different teaching methods. Teaching in a visual and hands-on way can enable children to succeed and unlock their potential. That's what we do. Support children with a different teaching and learning style that helps them feel better about Maths and living in a World surrounded by numbers.
Our sessions won't have any worksheets #worksheetfreezone and won't be about rote learning or learning number facts. So much of Primary Maths is about memory and fact learning, and they are rewarded for doing Maths fast. At JMB Educational Services, we follow the latest Dyscalculia research. We know that this testing based teaching doesn't suit Neurodiverse children.
Learning in practical, visual, and relevant ways and not just in an abstract way helps tap into the potential Neurodiverse children have, and unlock their ability and self-belief.
Our group sessions will not be year-group based or curriculum led. Our sessions will be topic and theme based. Each session will focus on practical enrichment activities that inspire and encourage children to think, problem-solve and above all, understand the 'hows? and whys?'
We know that our students often love and excel in art, creativity, and science. Because of this, our group sessions will have these practical STEAM skills at their centre.
Patterns in nature, creating geometric patterns & symmetry, maps & directions, telling the time, using money, weighing & measuring, recipes, bus timetables, and time zones around the World are just a few of the real-life topics we will be covering.
The first cohorts of group lessons will be taught by me (Judy Brice) and will be fun maths lessons in a small group of 6 children who are in KS2 or KS3. Patterns in nature, creating geometric patterns & symmetry, maps & directions, telling the time, using money, weighing & measuring, recipes, bus timetables, and time zones around the World are just a few of the real-life topics we will be covering. In the future we hope to offer similar group classes for creative writing, science and art.
If you are interested in joining, click the button, and we will then offer you a free advice call where your child's needs and teaching methods are discussed, and then if you would like your child to join the group, you can sign up.
If you are unsure about signing up for a block of 6 group lessons you may be interested in your child attending one of our one-off group lessons.
These one-off lessons are themed around issues children are already having with numerical topics.
These lessons will be 1 hour and are available to book directly on Eventbrite. Just sign up and pay and then you will be sent the Zoom link for the event. You will also then receive an eBook with the session notes and suggested resources.
The lessons will be run on Zoom, and a second downward-facing camera will be used so that the children can see exactly what Judy is doing with her practical resources. If you already have the same resources, your child will be able to do the same activity as Judy.

Topics that will be addressed in these one-off lessons will be:
As well as the one-off child group lessons we will be also running sessions for Parents on the same topic. These slightly larger online groups will be run as workshops for Parents to find out more about how to help their own children using the same practical activities.
Each topic will be offered as both an online group lesson for children in groups of up to 6 and also in a Parent workshop format for up to 20 Parents. These sessions will run monthly. Alternating months it will be run as a hands-on session for children and the following month as a Parents' Workshop.
These lessons will be 1 hour and are available to book directly on Eventbrite. Just sign up and pay and then you will be sent the Zoom link for the event. You will also then receive an eBook with the session notes and suggested resources.
